Driving Meaningful Change
First-generation, high-achieving students from under-resourced backgrounds often encounter major obstacles when pursuing higher education and entering the workforce. These range from limited financial resources and academic preparation to a lack of career guidance—barriers that can prevent them from thriving in elite academic settings and competitive industries.Thrive Scholars addresses these challenges through a comprehensive, data-driven six-year program that supports students from pre-college through their professional launch. With our firm's sponsorship, Thrive provides mentorship, academic enrichment, financial assistance, internships, and networking opportunities. More than 90% of participants go on to attend Top 100 colleges, driving greater diversity and representation in fields like finance and technology.
In response to the global COVID-19 crisis, our firm’s partners committed more than $50 million toward relief and recovery efforts. This included funding the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and supporting hospitals in advancing vital research. Our team played a key role in shaping Operation Warp Speed’s strategies, which were critical to developing and distributing life-saving vaccines. As our founder and CEO George Mackinnon noted, “Investing in vaccine production before efficacy was confirmed proved essential.” Additionally, our partners backed humanitarian aid initiatives and collaborated with the U.S. State Department to successfully repatriate 800 American citizens from Wuhan, China.
High school students who take AP Computer Science Principles are over three times more likely to pursue computer science in college. However, many students from low-income backgrounds still lack access to this critical subject, reinforcing disparities in tech-driven fields. Thanks to a $2.75 million contribution from our founder and CEO, George Mackinnon, 500 additional high schools across the U.S. will now offer AP Computer Science Principles. This initiative is designed to increase exposure and engagement in STEM for underrepresented students nationwide, helping to create a more inclusive future in science and technology.
Ukraine has a proud tradition of sending high school students to compete in global math and science Olympiads. However, following the outbreak of war with Russia in 2022, students faced overwhelming hurdles—including school closures, power outages, and a halt in government funding for travel and training. To help keep their dreams alive, our firm sponsored Ukraine’s Informatics team, enabling their participation in the 2022 International Olympiad in Indonesia. Despite immense challenges, the team delivered a historic performance, earning gold, silver, and bronze medals. We continue to fund their journey to international competitions, now extending our support to Ukraine’s Physics and Astronomy Olympiad teams, ensuring these talented students have the resources they need to succeed.
Many first-generation and lower-income students face barriers to higher education, often lacking the guidance and resources to navigate the college admissions process and access top-tier institutions. Matriculate is addressing this challenge by connecting high-achieving students from under-resourced backgrounds with mentors—college students from similar circumstances—at leading universities. These peer advisors help demystify the application journey, offering insights and encouragement that significantly increase students' chances of attending selective colleges. With our firm’s support, Matriculate plans to reach 10,000 students per graduating class by 2030, opening doors to higher education for the next generation of leaders.

I chose to become a mentor because I was the first in my family to attend college, so I’m familiar with how challenging that journey can be. Having benefited from mentors myself, I truly appreciate the difference they make.
When I began college, I felt there were limited resources available to me. However, starting my professional career opened my eyes to a wealth of opportunities. I want my mentee to have access to these resources so she can confidently pursue and achieve her goals.
